Down The Road (A Peace)

From some faint and far-flung future
this tidbit sallied forth:
what was once San Diego
has just sailed north
of what was once Seattle
'twas a fierce and furious battle
it killed all the fish and the cattle
and all of the people of every nation
were consumed in a puff of radiation

Mountains crumbled into rubble
volcanoes hurled their angry spew
when you gang-bang Mother Nature
bet your ass the sky ain’t blue

Somewhere down the road
a peace settled over a violent planet
the fear and rage of an eon of ghosts
evaporated into the cosmos
to sail on the solar wind

Acid rain falls like teardrops from the purple haze
fluorescent brooks babble downstream
lonely rivers meander past craggy bluffs
sloshing their way to the ocean
so the sky can cry again

Howling winds dissipate into a gentle breeze
seeds and spores wafting hither and yon
the hardy ones sprout through the fallout
reaching up for a glimpse of the pale glow
that penetrates the lavender haze

Perched atop the rusty husk
of what used to be a school bus
peering out at his paradise of tatters
a new day dawns
and the cockroach smiled
