State Of My Union

Pleasantly near, this new family life
settled down here with my son and my wife
I'm free from all the reckless strife
that dominated my early life
Wielding wise, these newfound powers
counting the minutes instead of the hours
naming the planets and bringing home flowers
amazed by what that boy devours
The places we've stayed, the meals she has made
have always received a passing grade
lessons I learn, the games we have played
for you 2 guys the world's a bad trade
The state of my union is good these days
now all those critics offer nothing but praise
feel 10' tall in a 2' maze
plotting a course for the man we will raise
Biding our time -
toward great goals we do strive
not even minding the old 9 to 5
life's just one long Sunday drive
loving each other all the days were alive
