The Last Prayer

Lordy, I guess it seems
as if I only come-a-callin’
when things aren’t goin’ my way
and my high sky starts fallin’

I beg your gracious pardon
I don’t mean to impose
there are many many others
more worthy I suppose

Of holy rollin’ intervention
not to mention
they didn’t question
your very existence

But what sort of god
would play deaf if I called out
who has instilled within me
the capacity to doubt

Far be it from me to see
the light, or the truth, or the way
but let me just say
that I’m as humble as they come
there is no one under my thumb

With your divine consent
I will give 100%
of all the love that I possess
and this will be my last request
won’t you bless this empty nest?

With a great big bouncin’ bundle of joy
we don’t care if it’s a girl or a boy
but come whatever may
for others I will pray
less fortunate than we have been
amen
