I know this ain’t a perfekt world
but I still don’t understand
how the sweetest boy or the kindest girl
turn to evil women and men
I blink and I’m fooled again
then I take it on the chin

Chin up little trooper
everything is super duper
copasetic hunky dory
mystic bits of twisted glory
(about 15 minute’s worth)
then they cover you 
with sod and earth

A tough row to hoe 
is nothing new
it’s been that way 
since the sky’s been blue
and all but the ducks 
and the farmers say
that it just gets worse 
when the sky turns gray

The shorter the line
the longer you’ll wait
the harder you work
the less you will make
and just when you think 
you’re the king of the hill
if something can go wrong 
it will

and I wasn’t really speeding you know
those other cars were just going slow

I zigged when I shoulda zagged
but I coulda been in a body bag
(I will see the faintest glimmer of hope
in the dimmest of instances always)

Expect the unexpected
leave no flank unprotected
and thank your lucky star
you can get another car
